$2300 USD....

Buy a Macbook Air, Logic Pro and a Mini Lab 3 and have hundreds left over. All while enjoying an infinitely more powerful stack.

Maybe I'm a bit cynical, but Teenage Engineering has had a series of very low quality, fault-prone gimmick devices that quickly end up forgotten in drawers. Hard to take this seriously.

from the guys who brought you a $1000USD bluetooth speaker, the $240 leather sack, and the always popular $50 tshirt comes, "we dont understand how western inflation works in the context of consumer confidence as it applies to discretionary spending as a function of income"

To be fair, I find the audio from my OD-11 considerably superior to my A9. Not as good as my Ferguson Hill Jetstream however.

      • wahnfrieden 9 hours ago

Good to know about OD-11. I like the OB-4 though it's not good value for the sound alone. Are you running OD-11 in multi channel mode? And are you flexing a $130k+ system?

        • neom 9 hours ago

x2 in stereo via optical, but a single 11 knocks an A4 out of the water, they're not kidding when they say carlsson sound, it is just that - OB-4 sounds fine but fell over and broke the dumb spinny volume knob thing 3rd day, back to TE and huge wait... never mind they're literally NOT FIXING KO-2s right now, refunds only, fuckin' TE.

Pricing your product is artistic expression, you philistine

  • twelfthnight 13 hours ago

Classic 2024 company. Started out with a few genuinely cool products and a quirky, fun attitude. Got popular, decided to exploit that good will and now everything they do seems greedy and inauthentic (regardless of whether any specific product is or not). Maybe this is a great product? But after the OP Field pricing shenanigans and OP-Z quality issues... hard to give them a second chance.

You're not the target market. You're not cool.

  • whywhywhywhy 13 hours ago

Yeah but then you have a laptop not a toy. Whole point of this is it's more fun and satisfying than using Logic. It's a lot less about the sound it makes than you think.

TX-6 is not a very low quality gimmick

> liebe aüf den ersten blick.

"aüf" is not a thing, should be "auf"

  • batmenace 13 hours ago

Feels deliberate, just like ‘das sequencer’

    • barbazoo 12 hours ago

Yeah, except that the rest seems pretty much correct. It's hard to know which one it is :)

  • Tepix 13 hours ago

Shoddy quality even in their prose.

Looks like a Sinclair QL. Which is not a bad thing.

But the faux-German is cringe. Weird flex, too, considering that Germany itself is a huge market for these kinds of instruments.

Teenage Engineering is based out of Sweden.

"das sequenzer" ... shouldn't it be "der"?

  • ziofill 13 hours ago

I remember attending a German language course in Berlin (25 years ago) with some other international students and this american kid who was railing against using die and der for objects that clearly had no gender: "what do you say?? die snowboard? der snowboard???" (it's das XD)

  • anamexis 14 hours ago

I think they took some liberties to make it seem "more German". See also the umlaut in "liebe aüf den ersten blick".

  • seeekr 14 hours ago

probably a riff on "das Auto" (Volkswagen ad)

  • dist-epoch 14 hours ago

das is what non-german people think it's what should be, and that makes it the correct one. simulacrum/simulacra, don't let the truth get in the way of a good story, etc

    [flagged]

    • pizzalife 14 hours ago

This is clearly inspired by the german band Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft and the electronic body music genre in general, which are widely known in Sweden. Has nothing to do with Trump.

      • PreInternet01 14 hours ago

Yeah, sure, whatever excuse you Trumpskies can come up with for this counter-grammatical mess.

We'll reconsider our positions once the first nuke hits Stockholm, I guess.

        • pizzalife 13 hours ago

          What are you talking about?

There is a whole music scene in Sweden that uses german loan words and often purposefully incorrect german in their music, to make it sound better for the Swedish audience. See Sturm Café, Kommando XY, Tyskarna från Lund (literally The Germans from Lund) etc.

While they evoke the leather uniform Deutsche aesthetic, they are all anti-fascist btw. Kommando XY has a song called "Skinheads fuck off".

            What are you talking about?

There is a whole political scene in the US that uses Sweden as an excuse to bash minorities, so they sound better for a MAGA audience. See Fox News, CNN, NYT, etc.

While they evoke fascism, they are actually fascists! CNN had a talking head on that said Trump might be bad!

Thank you insufferable rich people buying synths without an ounce of musical talent
